CRNAs Offer Country's Oldest Clinical
Specialty

Before there were nurses in any niche, nurse anesthetists were
blazing trails. The nation's oldest clinical nursing specialty
originated around the Civil War.
Nurse anesthesia evolved in the late 1800s from surgeons'
escalating demands for anesthetists. And in 1956, the credential
CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) came to fruition.
